Santo is a traditional type of carving in wood of Saints or other religious figures. The early Santos were imitations of Spanish Baroque statues carved by priests. These popular figures were found in home alters, shrines and churches. Santos are normally full figures, usually standing, but busts and half figures on cages are not uncommon. The figures with cages were traditionally dressed by the local ladies with costumes to celebrate different holy days. Our Santos are contemporary reproductions of the traditional statues that are meticulously recreated, hand painted resin all with glass eyes. We use them for ultra-hip decor--they really do dress up a room!!
